Official Barrie Baycats News Release

BARRIE -- As the holiday season approaches, the Barrie Baycats have been busy focusing on the 2022 Intercounty Baseball League season. The team has signed 14 players since the offseason began.

The team's first transactions of the offseason arrived in late November, with one of the biggest headlines featuring the re-signing of outfielder Avery Tuck. In his first IBL season, Tuck hit .313 with six home runs, eight stolen bases, 20 RBIs and 25 hits.

Around the same time, the team confirmed 2022 returns for catcher Tyler Plumpton, infielders Owen Jansen and Michael Cecchetto, and pitchers Brandon Hillier, Brad Grieveson, and Aidan Rossel.

The Baycats have also signed outfielder/catcher James Anderson, pitcher Riley Hoover, and two key infielders in Carson Burns and Royce Ando.

Last week, the Baycats announced the signing of three additional pitchers to the roster - Chris Cox, Evan Soules, and Jayson Aquino. Key parts of the 2021 roster, Cox and Soules will pitch in front of Barrie fans once again next season. Aquino, formerly a top Colorado Rockies prospect, brings MLB experience to Barrie.

"Jayson is as big of a signing as we can get," manager Josh Matlow told BarrieBaycats.com when Aquino was first signed. "With Major League experience, he will not only be an instant ace and impactful piece on the mound, but a mentor to our younger arms."
