WELLAND - The Welland Jackfish have signed veteran right-hander Brett Lawson.

The towering 6-foot-8, Mississauga, Ont., native, who has spent a decade in the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL), returns to the Jackfish following a four-game stint with the club in 2021. In 13 innings last season, Lawson recorded 10 strikeouts and walked just one batter.

Lawson won the IBL's Dominico Cup with the Barrie Baycats between 2014 and 2018 following his professional playing days.

Selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 15th round of the 2001 MLB draft out of Northwestern Oklahoma State University, he spent six seasons in professional baseball.
