Official Barrie Baycats News Release

BARRIE - The Barrie Baycats Baseball Club have signed catcher/infielder Anthony Quirion for the 2021 season.

Quirion, 23, is currently in his senior season at Lamar University.

In 38 games for the Lamar Cardinals this season, the Bromont, Que., native has a team-leading 10 home runs, which places him in a three-way tie for the second-most home runs hit among Canadians currently playing Division 1 Baseball.

He is one home run back from the leader, Owen Diodati (Niagara Falls, Ont.).

Quirion, who also ranks third in doubles (11) and eighth in slugging percentage (.558) among Canadian D1 players, was named to the Canadian Baseball Network's All-Canadian College Team in 2019 as a third-team all-star in his first season at Lamar University.

In 2017 and 2018, he spent his freshman and sophomore seasons at Clarendon College and also made the Canadian Baseball Network's All-Canadian College Team as a third-team all-star each year, slashing a combined .398/.447/701 in his two seasons at the Texas junior college.

Baycats manager Josh Matlow said he is thrilled to add Quirion, who will join recent-signee Marcel Lacasse as the first two players from Quebec to ever play for the Baycats.

“We are thrilled to add Anthony to our already deep and talented roster. He is coming off an incredible collegiate career and comes to the Baycats in midseason form,” said Matlow. “We feel Anthony is another immediate impact player that will play a big role for us this summer. We also feel he will fit in very well with our group.”
