BRANTFORD - The Brantford Red Sox, members of the Intercounty Baseball League, have signed Will Langford for the upcoming 2021 season.
Langford is a 26-year-old right-handed pitcher from Coburg, Ont. He was a standout pitcher in the OUA for the Queen's University Gaels. In September 2017, he threw a no-hitter against the Waterloo Warriors, the only pitcher in Queen's baseball history to achieve this feat. He recently committed to the University of Toronto and will be playing for the Varsity Blues while pursuing his Master's Degree.
He also pitched in the Western Canadian Baseball League for the Fort McMurray Giants in 2018 and 2019. He posted a WCBL career 3.68 ERA over 22 games and 78 1/3 innings, with 62 strikeouts. In 2019, he was named to the WCBL’s Western Division All-Star team.
"Will gives us another top of the rotation type arm, and everything that I’ve heard about him is that he is an absolute gamer!,” said Red Sox manager Matt McGovern. “He's the type of pitcher who goes out there, gives you 110%, and you know exactly what you are going to get every time he toes the rubber. He’s going to attack hitters and challenge them from the first pitch to the last. He pounds the zone consistently and mixes speeds very well".
"We are going to have a great chance to win a ball game every time Will's spot comes up in the rotation,” added McGovern. “We're very fortunate to have signed Will and I’m certain he will be a mainstay and one of the top arms in the IBL for years to come!"
The Brantford Red Sox were founded in 1911 and have won 15 Intercounty Baseball League titles.
