Official Guelph Royals News Release
GUELPH - The Guelph Royals are excited to announce the re-signing of pitcher Kyle Thomas.
Thomas, 29, will enter third season with the Royals in May.
In 2024, Thomas (Mississauga, Ont.) recorded an ERA of 2.45 in nine appearances (five starts), which would have ranked third among all Canadian starting pitchers, behind just Jacob Kush (Guelph, Ont.) and Ben Abram (Welland, Ont.).
The former Detroit Tigers prospect’s most impressive outing came in game three in Welland, when he threw five innings of one-run ball, while striking out seven batters en route to the team's biggest road playoff win (at the time) in well over a decade.
Thomas said he is back to finish off some business from a season ago.
"I'm excited to be back in Guelph for another season. Last year left a sour taste in a lot of the returning members of the team's mouths and I'm expecting that to drive a healthy winning culture this year. I'm blessed with another opportunity to step between the lines and go to war with a group of guys that I respect and want to succeed with."
Royals assistant general manager Ryan Eakin said he is pumped to have Thomas back.
"Our calling card a season ago was our Canadian arms and that is going to be no different this summer. Thomas is a ratio-breaker and thus one of the more important assets in the league. He is an even better person, teammate, and guy to have in our clubhouse. I am so pumped to have him back and hope that our young arms look at how Kyle approaches his craft as a great example as to what they should be doing"
