The Guelph Royals have re-signed pitcher Kyle Thomas.

Thomas, 29, returns to the Royals for the 2024 season after striking out 24 batters in his last 17 1/3 innings in 2023.

Prior to joining the Royals a season ago, Thomas (Mississauga, Ont.), who is now the pitching coach for the 18U Mississauga Tigers, spent time in professional baseball in the Detroit Tigers’ organization and in the Frontier League with the Quebec Capitales and Trois-Rivieres Aigles.

The right-hander said he cannot wait to start his second season with the Royals.

"I am excited to be back in Guelph for another season. Last year left a sour taste in a lot of the returning members of the team's mouths and I'm expecting that to drive a healthy winning culture this year,” said Thomas. “I am blessed with another opportunity to step between the lines and go to war with a group of guys that I respect and want to succeed with."

Royals manager Dino Roumel is pleased that Thomas is returning.

"I'm so excited to have Kyle back in our rotation. KT has experience in professional baseball and conducts himself professionally every time he steps on the mound,” said Roumel. “He is yet another member of our team who is a student of the game. He teaches the game to the younger players and loves to compete. He will be one of the main pieces in what will be a strong pitching staff."
