Official Hamilton Cardinals News Release

The Hamilton Cardinals have officially announced the re-signing of catcher Luis Bernardo for the 2024 season.

At 36 years old, the San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic native will return to the Cardinals following his impactful debut in the IBL last season.

During the 2023 season, Bernardo demonstrated his prowess at the plate, hitting .289 with six home runs and 43 RBIs over 39 games. His presence was not only felt at the plate but also in his defensive role. As a catcher, Bernardo was pivotal in leading the Cardinals' defence, showcasing his assertiveness in handling baserunners.

Prior to joining the Cardinals, Bernardo's professional journey included a significant tenure with the Baltimore Orioles organization. Signed by the Orioles in 2006, he spent six seasons within their minor league system, advancing as high as the Class-A Advanced level with the Frederick Keys.

“Bernardo brings so much to the table for the organization. We’re fortunate to have him,” said George Halim, Hamilton Cardinals general manager. “He’s arguably the best defensive catcher in the league, he can still hit and his leadership qualities are unmatched.”
