Official Hamilton Cardinals News Release
The Hamilton Cardinals are pleased to announce the signing of left-hander Ben Braun.
Braun (Georgetown, Ont.) enters his fifth season in the IBL and his third with the Hamilton Cardinals. In 43 games in the IBL, he has pitched 134 1/3 innings and owns a 5-10 record, with one save and 121 strikeouts. Last season, Braun was 3-3 with the Cardinals.
“Ben is one of the nicest young men in the IBL. He cares for his teammates and gives everything he has for the organization every time he’s handed the ball,” said Cardinals GM Jeff Lounsbury.
“He got off to a great start last season but struggled in the second half. With a full off-season to prepare, I anticipate Ben to be back to his old self. He has to locate all his pitches and change speeds to be successful and he is at the stage of his career where he understands his mechanics, understands the IBL hitters and he is as competitive as they come.”
“I am very excited to get back on the diamond this summer,” said Braun. “Our team is going to take a great step forward this season, and I can’t wait to get things going and compete to win a championship together.
“While navigating through the pandemic proved to be difficult for everyone, the hard work put together by our ownership and organization can’t go unnoticed, and I am very much looking forward to doing my part to help bring winning baseball back to the city of Hamilton.”
The Hamilton Cardinals are a member of the Intercounty Baseball League. The over 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, established in 1919.
