Official Hamilton Cardinals News Release

The Hamilton Cardinals are proud to announce the re-signing of outfielder Tyler Duncan for the upcoming 2025 season, marking his fourth season with the club.

Duncan, who is originally from Sooke, BC, continues to build on an impressive career that has cemented him as a cornerstone of the team.

Duncan’s 2024 season once again showcased his consistency and versatility. He began the year as the team’s starting shortstop and transitioned back to centre field to finish the season. Duncan continued to lead the Cardinals offensively including a team-leading .339 batting average, accumulating 56 hits in 41 games.

Duncan demonstrated his power by winning the 2024 Home Run Derby and added to his accomplishments with a starting position on the North All-Star team. By season’s end, he was also named to the 2nd All-IBL Team.

Duncan first made history in 2023 as the MVP of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL), becoming the first Hamilton Cardinals player to receive the prestigious John Bell Memorial Trophy. During that MVP season, he set Hamilton franchise records for the most home runs and RBIs in a single season.

“Tyler has earned recognition as one of the league’s premier players, not only for his exceptional talent and numerous awards but also for his ability to lead by example on and off the field,” said Cardinals owner Eric Spearin. “We’re committed to putting in the work this offseason to make significant strides for 2025, and retaining Tyler Duncan on our roster is a vital part of achieving that goal.”

Prior to joining the Cardinals, Duncan was a product of the Junior National Team and was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 30th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He played his collegiate baseball at Arkansas State University.
