Official Hamilton Cardinals News Release

HAMILTON - The Hamilton Cardinals, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL), are pleased to announce the signing of IBL All-Star outfielder Justin Gideon.

The Pickering, Ont., native enters his seventh season in the IBL. He has become one of the most consistent and dependable players in IBL history. He has played 206 consecutive games and has a career batting average of .351.

Last season, Gideon picked up his 300th career hit, he also has 36 home runs, 145 RBIs and 77 stolen bases. In 2021, he finished with a .368 average with 12 doubles, six home runs, 20 RBIs and eight stolen bases and was named an IBL First Team all-star once again.

“Justin is such an amazing player. He cares so much and loves to play the game. I have been spoiled watching him play over the years, but I am still amazed by his play. He still makes highlight-reel defensive plays, runs the bases hard and falls out of bed hitting .333. We are so lucky to have him back, and we can’t wait for the 2022 season to start,” said Cards GM Jeff Lounsbury

“Resigning in Hamilton was an incredibly easy decision,” said Gideon. “With a full off-season to get ready, I’m absolutely confident the Cardinals will be back on the upward trajectory we were on before the pandemic started and finish as one of, if not the best team in the league. It is clear the ownership group and management are committed to winning, and I believe the plans in place will create a professional environment for both players and fans. I’m honoured to be back in Hamilton and cannot wait to get started.”

The Hamilton Cardinals Baseball Club is a member of the Intercounty Baseball League. The over 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world.
