Official Hamilton Cardinals News Release

The Hamilton Cardinals have re-signed the IBL’s all-time leader in pitching appearances, Stefan Strecker (Dundas, Ont.).

Strecker returns for his third season in Hamilton after spending over a decade with the Brantford Red Sox. Strecker is the IBL leader in games pitched with 301 and saves with 46.

Last season, Strecker posted a 4.72 ERA and registered four saves in 16 games, spanning 13 1/3 innings.

After long discussions with his family, Strecker’s kids urged him to return as they love watching their him compete.

“This is what the IBL is about: you have a man playing the game he loves against guys half his age and he works as hard as any guy in the league to compete and win,” said Cardinals GM Jeff Lounsbury. “Stefan is still dominant when healthy, and hopefully in a normal IBL year we will be able to give him the proper rest between games. I have known Strecker since he was 18 years old at Brock, and to see him still pitching at 42 is amazing.”
