HAMILTON - The Hamilton Cardinals are pleased to announce the signing of infielder Luis Jean ( San Pedro de Macoris , DR).
Jean spent six seasons in the Colorado Rockies system reaching double-A in 2017. He hit a career .264 (315-1191) in the minors with 41 doubles, 10 triples, two homeruns, 125 RBIs and 88 stolen bases. He spent 2018 in the Frontier League.
“Luis played over 80 per cent of his time at shortstop in the minors and will give us great defense plus adds a lot of speed to our lineup. We lost Grant Arnold and Chris Beer so we knew we had to add a middle infielder to go along with the other new guys coming in this year. Luis is also 26 years old, so he will be a nice veteran presence and will help our younger players develop faster,” stated Cardinals GM Jeff Lounsbury.
The Cardinals open the season on the road on May 10 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. They return to face Toronto on their home opener on May 22.
The Hamilton Cardinals are a member of Ontario's most elite baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
