Official Welland Jackfish News Release

WELLAND – On Tuesday, the Welland Jackfish announced the re-signing of outfielder Brandon Nicholson for the 2021 season.

In 2019 with the Jackfish, Nicholson recorded eight doubles, a triple, a home run and 12 RBIs in 23 games. The speedy Nicholson also recorded 18 stolen bases to help propel a league-leading Jackfish offence.

“Brandon Nicholson is the kind of player that delivers on whatever is asked of him. A lifelong accomplished outfielder, Brandon was asked to play second base last year and did so at a very high level” said Jackfish general manager Jason McKay. “Possessing a disciplined eye at the plate with gap power and speed we are excited to have him back for 2021.”

Prior to joining the Jackfish in 2019, Brandon appeared in 43 games for the Oswego State Lakers and was second on the team in runs (44), hits (47) and doubles (11). He also led the team in triples with six and ended the season with 32 RBIs, on top of a fielding percentage of .964 with 76 putouts and four assists.

The Welland Jackfish are a member of Ontario's most elite baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The over 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
