Official Welland Jackfish News Release
WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish announced on Monday that they have signed outfielder Dane Tofteland for the 2021 season.
The 6-foot-4, Grande Prairie, Alta., native, joins the Jackfish after suiting up for the Indiana State Sycamores in 2019. During his last season with the Sycamores, he recorded three doubles, five home runs, and 18 RBIs.
“Dane is a big athletic player that is equally comfortable at first or in the outfield,” said Jackfish general manager Jason McKay. “Giving the coaching staff another middle line-up bat with power to put forth our best line-up on any given night was the goal.”
Over his four years at Indiana State University, Tofteland recorded a .237 batting average with 15 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, and 60 RBI.
The Welland Jackfish are a member of Canada’s best league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The over 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
