Official London Majors News Release

The London Majors are pleased to announce the signing of veteran outfielder Byron Reichstein, who returns for his 12th season in a Majors uniform.

A local St. Thomas, Ont., native, Reichstein has enjoyed an impressive IBL career, dating back to the 2012 season when he debuted as a 19-year-old playing for manager Roop Chanderdat.

In 358 regular season games over 11 seasons, the left-handed hitting slugger owns a career .336 batting average with 315 runs and 293 RBIs.

“Byron is a perennial all-star, and he’s one of the core guys during my tenure,” said Chanderdat, the Majors’ GM and field manager. “I’m obviously excited about him coming back. And he was the first to commit [after the 2023 season]. That shows the hunger and drive."

“I’ve seen maturity in Byron – as a person and as a player – over the years, and it’s been gratifying for me to see his growth. Last year, he spread himself too thin with a lot of commitments, but if he plays a full season, he can put up all-star numbers and be among the best hitters in the league.”

In 2023, Reichstein hit .311 with seven home runs and 25 RBIs in 31 regular season games. His .396 on-base percentage led the team among qualified hitters. The 30-year-old played a significant role in both Majors’ championships in 2021 and 2022, earning Playoff MVP honours the first time around.

“We have a great atmosphere. Roop runs a really good system. He does a great job giving us the things we need in order to be successful,” said Reichstein. “That includes things like time at the field and regular communication on what’s expected of us and our roles."

“I’m preparing, mentally and physically, to make sure I’m ready at the hop and that I’m there all the time to lead the team this year.”
