Official London Majors News Release
The London Majors have signed outfielder Phil Whelan (Calgary, Alta.).
Whelan, 24, attended the University of Calgary and Vancouver Island University. He also spent time in the WCBL with the Yorkton Cardinals.
A solid power bat, 30 per cent of Whelan’s hits with Yorkton went for extra bases. In addition to his power, he was also a threat on the base paths, going 10-for-11 in stolen base attempts.
"I thought baseball was over for me once the pandemic hit,” said Whelan. “But thanks to the help from the Calgary Baseball community and from Baseball Jobs Overseas I am able to continue a baseball career. The opportunity to step between the lines in front of a buzzing crowd is a surreal thought but I’m ready to compete hard with a strong team and bring another championship to London.
Majors co-owner, GM and field boss, Roop Chanderdat, is excited to have Whelan on board.
“Phil will be another player that will give us depth in the outfield,” said Chanderdat. “He is a player looking to continue to develop and move up the baseball ladder”
