Official London Majors News Release
The London Majors have signed former Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins right-handed pitching prospect Jose Arias.
Born in 1991, Arias, a 6-foot-6, 235-pound right-hander, hails from Santiago, Dominican Republic. He split parts of six seasons from 2010 to 2015 between the Cubs and Marlins organizations.
He was named a Midwest League class-A All-Star in 2014 when he posted a 1.77 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings before he was traded to the Marlins along with Tyler Bremer for Jacob Turner.
In all, in six seasons in the affiliated minor league ranks, Arias registered a 3.32 ERA in 241 1/3 innings and averaged more than a strikeout an inning (9.1 K/9).
“I am thrilled to join the London Majors Baseball Team,” said Arias. “This is a good opportunity for me to continue my pitching career. I am looking forward to playing at Labatt Park in front of the London fans.”
Majors manager Roop Chanderdat is excited to have Arias on his roster.
“Jose Arias is a very good addition to our pitching staff,” said Chanderdat. “He has had very good success early in his career and has continued to work hard to stay ready for his next opportunity.”
