The London Majors have signed left-hander Fernando Fernandez.

Fernandez, 27, returns to the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) in 2022 after posting a 1-1 record with a 3.50 ERA in 18 innings for the Guelph Royals in 2019.

The Mercier, Que., native also pitched professionally with the Trois-Rivieres Aigles of the independent Can-Am League (now the Frontier League) for parts of two seasons (2018, 2019). In those two campaigns, he appeared in 11 games and struck out 14 batters in 16 1/ 3 innings.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound southpaw also had a successful college career, pitching for both the University of New Mexico (2016) and St. Mary's (2018). At St. Mary’s in 2018, he went 8-5 with a 2.65 ERA over 15 appearances (14 starts), striking out 91 batters in 95 innings. For his efforts, he was named to the NCBWA All-Region Second Team and to the All-Heartland Conference First Team.

“Fernandez will give us another quality arm to add to our pitching staff,” said Roop Chanderdat, Majors co-owner, GM and field boss. “He is a lefty that has had success at every stop in his career.”
