The London Majors are pleased to announce the signing of right-handed pitcher Tyler Gillies, a Forest City native who reached High-A ball in the minor leagues two summers ago within the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

Gillies, 29, spent his collegiate years at the University of British Columbia, where he pitched primarily out of the bullpen for three seasons and then served as a starter in his final year. He had an impressive junior season in 2016, posting a 1.26 ERA and .173 batting average against in 21 appearances (35 2/3 innings). As a senior, he made 11 starts and turned in a strong 3.03 ERA.

After beginning his pro career with the Quebec Capitales of the Can-Am league in 2017, Gillies spent the 2018 summer with the IBL’s Brantford Red Sox, recording six saves and 28 strikeouts in 17 appearances (20 IP).

Then, he earned his big break, signing a minor league deal with the Milwaukee Brewers – and he performed very well in affiliated ball. In 2019 in A ball, the right-hander appeared in 42 games, racking up 65 strikeouts in 54 innings and posting a 3.17 ERA.

Health issues forced Gillies away from the game for two seasons, but he returned to pitch for High-A Wisconsin again in 2022, this time making 23 appearances out of the bullpen. He struck out 29 in 26 innings.

“Tyler is another local player who is coming back home to play for the Majors,” said Roop Chanderdat, the Majors’ GM and field manager. “He will help shore up the back end of our bullpen. His professional experience will be a great asset for our pitching staff.”

Gillies, who grew up playing for the London Badgers, is looking forward to contributing to his hometown team.

“I am excited to return home and play for London again. I started my career playing for London, and it feels like I have come full circle,” he said. “Hopefully, I can play a role in bringing an IBL championship back to Labatt Park.”
