Official London Majors Press Release
LONDON - The London Majors have signed INF Tyler Wood.
The 6-foot-1 Winnipeg native will join the Majors after finishing his senior year as the starting shortstop at McPherson College in Kansas. Wood will not be a stranger as recently signed catcher Hayden Jaco and outfielder Adam Filmon are former teammates of his.
"He’s a gritty player, gets the job done, super versatile! I’ve seen him play all positions! Good contact stick in the lineup and will spray gaps,” said Jaco of Wood.
Fellow Winnipeg native Adam Filmon said he has played against Wood since he was 12. He also suited up alongside Wood for three years on the provincial team.
“I am excited and blessed to get the opportunity to play for the Majors,” said Wood.
And Majors’ co-owner, manager and general manager, Roop Chanderdat, is excited to have Wood on board.
“Tyler is a good young player that will give us some depth in the infield, he can play short, second and third base,” said Chanderdat. “He will be coming off his senior year of college ball in the States, so he will be ready to go and contribute to our team.”
The London Majors are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The over 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
