Official Toronto Maple Leafs News Release

The Toronto Maple Leafs have re-signed right-handed pitcher Daniel Procopio.

Procopio, who is originally from Toronto and is now living in Rochester, N.Y., pitched three seasons in the Los Angeles Angels system (2017 to 2019) and one in the Houston Astros organization (2021).

He was a 22nd round draft pick of the New York Mets in 2013 and then a 10th round pick by the Angels in 2017 after graduating from Niagara University. In his four seasons in pro ball, he had a 4-3 record and four saves with 144 strikeouts in 86 innings.

Last season, Procopio became the Maple Leafs’ Sunday afternoon pitcher. He compiled a record of 5-1 with a 4.92 ERA and had 58 strikeouts in 45 2/3 innings.

"Last year, Daniel gave us a chance every week to win. He went deep into games and really battled threw some very hot Sunday afternoons. He battled some little nagging injuries and really showed a lot of determination and grit taking the ball every week. It was great to see him fall in love with the game again,” stated Leafs GM Jeff Lounsbury.

Opening day is set for May 12 at 2:00pm at Christie Pits.
