TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs have re-signed left-hander Dustin Richardson.
Richardson is set to return for his fifth season with the Leafs.
Prior to joining the Leafs, Richardson spent 10 years in the affiliated minor league ranks and parts of two seasons with the Boston Red Sox. He posted a combined 3.31 ERA in 29 relief appearances for the Red Sox in 2009 and 2010.
In his 10-year minor league career, he had a 39-27 record and registered 644 strikeouts in 596 2/3 innings in 266 appearances.
In his four seasons in the IBL, Richardson is 1-1 with six saves and has 81 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings. Last season, he was outstanding in the playoffs, finishing with a 1-0 record, one save and 14 strikeouts in 8 1/3 innings in four games.
"Dustin is one of the most feared pitchers in the league,” said Leafs GM Jeff Lounsbury. “He is highly competitive and is a great clubhouse leader. We look forward to having Dustin with the club on a more regular basis in 2024 and I feel his presence will help Rob and our whole pitching staff.”
