Official Toronto Maple Leafs News Release

TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed infielder/outfielder Justin Murray (Toronto, Ont.).

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Murray is a sophomore at Benedict College. This season, the Toronto Mets alum is leading his team with a .424 batting average (36-for-85) with eight doubles, four home runs, 30 RBIs and 13 stolen bases.

"Murray is such an athletic kid, who can run and hit for power,” said Leafs GM Jeff Lounsbury. “It is important that we keep and develop some of our great homerown Toronto talent. We recognize we have a veteran team, but it's important that we also grow within and hopefully Justin is with the team for a very long time, or we at least support him in his desire to play at the next level."

For his part, Murray is “excited to stay home [with the Leafs] and gain experience through the vets on the team."
