Official Welland Jackfish News Release
WELLAND, Ont. – The Welland Jackfish have announced plans for major upgrades to Welland Stadium, the home of the Jackfish.
The renovation project will begin immediately and is expected to be ready in time for the 2023 season.
Headlining the project will be the installation of stadium seats throughout the majority of the seating bowl, which will make Welland Stadium the first IBL park with stadium box seating throughout the building. Additionally, the Tackle Box Merchandise shop will relocate to a new shipping container shop on the right field berm.
"As I have said since my first day, one of our biggest priorities is to enhance the game day experience for our fans," said Jackfish president and director of fun, Ryan Harrison. "These improvements to Welland Stadium will allow us to improve the experience for every person who walks through our gates, draw more fans to the stadium and in turn give our players a stronger home field advantage. This project will also make our facility a more active and engaged community asset that serves as a more attractive destination for additional baseball and non-baseball events."
The new seats, produced by Hussey Seating Company and acquired by the Jackfish, will replace the existing bleacher seating throughout the stadium. Each of the new seats will include a cupholder and armrests, creating a significantly improved overall experience for guests at all Welland Stadium events.
"With an outdoor venue where we host many of our games and events during the summer months, everything we can do to give our visitors a more comfortable experience is important," Harrison said.
The project represents the second major improvement to the facility since the Jackfish arrived in Welland in 2019. Shortly after arriving to the Rose City, the Jackfish invested in many upgrades, including facility paint refresh, locker room upgrades, new LED videoboard project in partnership with the City of Welland and 2022 Canada Summer Games, new “The Dock” VIP section and more.
“We would like to thank the City of Welland for working with us to install the seats, we have been in conversation with the City to work together to get the seats installed well before the start of our 2023 season on May 18th.”
