Official Welland Jackfish News Release

WELLAND, ONT. - The Welland Jackfish have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Euclides Leyer for the upcoming 2025 season.

Leyer is no stranger to the Rose City suiting up for the Jackfish during the club’s inaugural 2019 season. During that season, Leyer would be named an IBL Second Team All-Star after recording a 2.57 ERA with 67 strikeouts and a 7-2 record.

Since 2019, Euclides has suited up for the Gastonia Honeyhunters of the Atlantic League (2021-2022), Olmecas de Tabasco of the Mexican League (2023) and most recently the Tigres de Chinandega of the Nicaraguan Winter League where he recorded a 1.65 ERA with 17 strikeouts over 16 1/3 innings.

Leyer also joined Team Curagao during the 2025 Series of the Americas, the same tournament as Jackfish pitcher Deivy Mendez and catcher Robert Mullen.

The Jackfish return to The Pond on Saturday, May 17 when they take on the Barrie Baycats.
