IBL's Welland Jackfish re-sign four pitchers

WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish will be returning pitchers Casey Howard, Chris Boatto, Rich Corrente and Tyler Wood for the 2021 season.
Howard, a 5-foot-11 right-hander, re-joins the Fish for his fifth season of IBL baseball and second in a Jackfish uniform. In 2019, he recorded a 3.64 ERA with 22 strikeouts and 15 walks. The Brantford, Ont., native has also suited up for the Burlington Herd and Brantford Red Sox during his IBL career.
Boatto, a 6-foot southpaw, enters his fourth season in the IBL. In 2019, he recorded a 3.19 ERA with 26 strikeouts and 11 walks during 36 2/3 innings. The Maple, Ont., native pitched for Alderson Broaddus University where he recorded a 4.01 ERA with 110 strikeouts and a record of 13-7 in three seasons.
Corrente, a 6-foot-2 southpaw from Chatham, Ont., enters his sixth season on the bump. In 2019, he finished with a 3-2 record and 18 strikeouts. He was named to the 2017 Intercounty Baseball League Second Team All-Star squad.
Wood, a 5-foot-10 Niagara Falls, Ont., native, enters his third season in the IBL. In 2019, he notched six strikeouts over 17 1/3 innings.
The Welland Jackfish are a member of Canada’s best league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The over 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
