The Welland Jackfish have re-signed right-hander Deivy Mendez.
Mendez, 29, will return for a fourth year with the Fish. The closer appeared in 16 games in 2024, recording an impressive 0.49 ERA with 21 strikeouts and only three walks.
Hailing from San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, Mendez is one of longest serving Jackfish players. He has appeared in 58 games with the club, collecting a 1.03 ERA with 124 strikeouts, 20 walks, and a 7-1 record.
Signed by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2013, Mendez spent time in the affiliated minors reaching as high as Class A with the Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres.
He is currently playing in the Colombian Professional Baseball League for the Cartagena Tigers where he has a 1-1 record with a 1.33 ERA, 20 strikeouts and six walks.
