WELLAND - The Welland Jackfish have signed 2021 IBL All-Star Gianfranco Morello for the 2022 season.

The 5-foot-11, Toronto native joins the Jackfish following an outstanding season with the Brantford Red Sox in 2021. In 28 games last season, Morello recorded a .346 batting average with seven doubles, a triple, 17 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. For his efforts, he was named an IBL Second-Team All-Star.

Gianfranco spent his college career with the University of Charleston Golden Eagles where he recorded a career .321 batting average with 47 doubles, 13 triples, 10 home runs and 73 stolen bases.

"Gio is a multi-tool player that has speed, pop in the bat, and is a plus defender," said Jackfish general manager Jason McKay. "Morello is a key component in the aggressive ‘make things happen’ approach the fans in Welland have come to expect."
