WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL), have signed 2013 San Diego Padres draft pick Chris Thibideau for the 2021 season.
The 6-foot, Dartmouth, N.S., native joins the Jackfish following an impressive college career at the University of North Florida. In two seasons, he recorded a .329 average with 31 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs and 69 RBIs. Thibideau also earned a 2016 NCAA 1st Team All-Conference nod and a 2017 NCAA 2nd Team All-Conference spot.
“Chris is an extremely dynamic athlete. He has the ability to hit for average and power and combines that with a speed uncommonly found in one player,” said Jackfish general manager Jason McKay. “Chris is extremely versatile, being comfortable on either side of the middle infield while also being able to utilize his range and speed in the outfield. He will not be outworked on the ball diamond and I am excited about what he will bring both on and off the field to the fans of the Jackfish.”
Before joining North Florida, Thibideau spent two seasons with Midland College (NJCAA DI).
The Welland Jackfish are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
