WELLAND - The Welland Jackfish, members of the Intercounty Baseball League, have signed outfielder Zarley Cina for the 2021 campaign.
Cina is a 5-foot-10, 195-pound former East Stroudsburg University Warrior (NCAA DII - PSAC). He joins the Jackfish following three seasons with the Kitchener Panthers.
Appearing in 2019 with the Panthers, Cina recorded a .342 average with seven doubles, three home runs and 21 RBIs over 31 games played. Entering his fourth IBL season in 2021, Cina holds a .306 career average.
In two seasons with East Stroudsburg University, Cina recorded a .306 average with 16 doubles, 11 home runs and 47 RBI. Prior to attending East Stroudsburg, Cina suited up for former coach and now teammate Matt Clingersmith and the NCCC Thunderwolves.
"Zarley’s ability is no secret throughout the league," said Jackfish General Manager Jason McKay. "A career .306 hitter in the IBL at the age of 23 he is the kind of player that can perform at a high level for a long time."
The Welland Jackfish are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
