Blue Jays from Away

The Toronto Blue Jays had an organizational sweep on Tuesday night, winning the major league game and all five of their minor league games.

Buffalo Bisons 2, Pawtucket Red Sox 1

In Game 1 of their double header, the triple-A Buffalo Bisons got a strong pitching performance from Jacob Waguespack and a couple of doubles from Lourdes Gurriel Jr.as they beat the Pawtucket Red Sox 2-1.

Waguespack allowed just three hits and a run with three walks, striking out six in five strong innings getting seven outs on the ground and just one on a fly ball before Justin Shafer finished it off with two scoreless frames, giving up a hit and a walk.

The Bisons took off running against the Paw Sox, stealing five bases with Anthony Alford and Bo Bichette leading the way with two each. While Alford was 0/2 with a walk and a run, Bichette was 1/3 with a walk. Lourdes Gurriel, playing in his first game with Buffalo since his demotion, was 2/4 with a pair of doubles and a run while Cavan Biggio was 1/2 with an RBI on a sac fly. Reese McGuire, Jordan Patterson and Roemon Fields were each 1/3 with Fields adding a stolen base and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Montreal, Que.) was 0/3.

Buffalo Bisons 5, Pawtucket Red Sox 4

While the pitching wasn't as dominant in the second game of the day for the Buffalo Bisons the club scored four runs in the top of the seventh for a 5-4 win and a doubleheader sweep of the Pawtucket Red Sox.

Shawn Morimando continued his early-season struggles, giving up four runs on four hits (including a home run) with two walks but six strikeouts in just three innings before giving way to Zach Jackson who tossed two scoreless innings, giving up a hit and striking out two. Derek Law struck out four in his two innings of work to pick up the win.

Bo Bichette was 1/3 with a double, an RBI and a run, hitting a sac fly to produce his RBI. Patrick Cantwell had a single and a doubel, scoring once and Cavan Biggio was 2/2 with two singles and a walk, driving in a run and pushing his batting average to .432 on the season. Richard Urena drove in two with a single in four at bats and Anthony Alford was 1/4 but is hitting just .205. Andrew Guillotte had the club's other hit, going 1/3 with a run.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 1

After losing 4-1 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Monday, the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats flipped the script, beating the Ponies 4-1 on Tuesday.

The Fisher Cats got behind a strong pitching performance by Hector Perez who tossed five scoreless innings for his best outing of the year, allowing four hits but walking four and striking out seven. Jake Fishman distributed two hits and a walk but struck out three over two innings to bring his season ERA down to 1.08 while Andrew Case (Saint John, N.B.) allowed a run on three hits in 1 2/3 innings, striking out one. Kirby Snead earned the save, stranding the runner he inherited from Case and getting the final out of the game.

Kevin Smith hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, going 1/4 and Josh Palacios had a strong game, going 1/3 with a walk, a double, an RBI and two runs. Santiago Espinal had a double and was 1/4 with an RBI but he's still hitting just .190. Alberto Mineo kept his hitting streak alive, going 1/4 and extending the streak to seven games. Chad Spanberger was 1/4 with an RBI and Brock Lundquist was 1/4.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Charlotte Stone Crabs 0

The class-A Advanced Dunedin Blue Jays got another terrific pitching performance from Nick Allgeyer as they shut out the Charlotte Stone Crabs 2-0.

Allgeyer went six scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and a walk with four strikeouts to bring his season ERA down to 1.15 and added his second win of the year. Kyle Weatherly went 1 2/3 innings, allowing a hit and a walk and hitting two batters and Matt Shannon earned his second save, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out three in 1 1/3 innings.

Riley Adams led the offensive attack, picking up three of the club's seven hits and going 3/4 while Cal Stevenson (1/4), Cullen Large (1/4), Ryan Noda (1/3, BB, R) and Christian Williams (1/4, RBI) each had a single. Demi Orimoloye (Orleans, Ont.) was 0/3 but drove in a run.

Lansing Lugnuts 5, West Michigan Whitecaps 2

Hagen Danner went deep again while Joey Murray dominated on the mound as the Lansing Lugnuts beat the West Michigan Whitecaps 5-2 to make it two in a row against their Michigan rivals.

Danner went 2/4 with a triple and a home run, driving in two as he added his first hit of the year that wasn't a home run (in addition to hitting his fourth dinger). Jordan Groshans was 2/5 with two RBI and Dom Abbadessa was 1/4 with a walk and a double. John Aiello was 1/3 with a walk and a run and D.J. Neal was 0/3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run. Otto Lopez (Montreal, Que.) was 1/5 and Alejandro Kirk was 1/4 with a walk and Reggie Pruitt was 1/5 with an RBI and a run.

On the mound, Joey Murray had his longest outing of his career, throwing seven innings and giving up two runs on four hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. Marcus Reyes tossed a scoreless eighth, giving up two walks and striking out one and Connor Law earned the save, striking out the side in the ninth, around a hit.
