Blue Jays from Away

The Bluefield Blue Jays played a doubleheader and the DSL Blue Jays were rained out but it was a 4-4 day for the Blue Jays' affiliates as a Toronto boy continued his hot streak in Dunedin.

Buffalo Bisons 3, Indianapolis Indians 5

The Buffalo Bisons couldn't beat the Indianapolis Indians in the second game of their series, falling 5-3 despite outhitting the Indians. Gregorio Petit has been swinging a hot bat and went 3/4 with a double and two RBI while Rowdy Tellez was 2/5 with an RBI. Danny Jansen also continues to hit well in Buffalo, going 2/4 with a double. Jon Berti was 1/3 with a walk and two runs and stole two bases and Dwight Smith Jr. was 1/3 with a walk.

T.J. House took the loss, going 5 1/3 innings and giving up four runs on seven hits and four walks with three strikeouts. John Stilson allowed a solo home run in 1 1/3 innings and Tim Mayza retired all four batters he faced, striking out one.

Player of the Game: Gregorio Petit

Roster Notes: Leonel Campos was called back up to the majors and Michael Saunders was activated off the 7-day DL.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Akron RubberDucks 4

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats opened their series against the Akron RubberDucks with a 4-3 loss on Tuesday. Emilio Guerrero was 2/4 with an RBI and Richard Urena was 2/5 with a double while Harold Ramirez drove in two runs, going 1/3 with a triple and a walk. Gunnar Heidt was on twice, going 1/3 with a walk and a run.

Conner Greene was on the mound to start the game and threw five innings, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks with four strikeouts and gave up two home runs. Shane Dawson (Drayton Valley, Alta.) allowed two hits and a walk in his inning of work but didn't give up any runs of his own and Justin Shafer tossed two scoreless inning while Daniel Young gave up the winning run in the bottom of the ninth on two hits after getting one out.

Dunedin Blue Jays 11, Dayton Tortugas 4

The Dunedin Blue Jays got some revenge on the Daytona Tortugas by beating them 11-4 on Tuesday (after losing 11-5 on Monday). Connor Panas (Toronto, Ont.) continued his torrid back end of the season by going 3/5 with a double, a home run, three RBI and two runs. For Panas, it was his second home run in as many days and his third home run in four games. Andres Sotillo also had three hits, two RBI and a run while Josh Almonte was 2/5 with two RBI and D.J. Davis was 2/5 with an RBI, two runs and a stolen base. Chris Coghlan continues on his road to recovery and was 1/2 with a walk and two runs while Jake Thomas, in the leadoff spot, was 1/4 with a walk, an RBI and a run. Vladimir Guerrero was 1/4 with a walk and two runs, driving in a run and Bo Bichette didn't play.

John Straka went six innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with five strikeouts to earn the win. Philip Walby, Kirby Snead and Zach Jackson each pitched a scoreless inning of relief with Jackson striking out two.

Player of the Game: Connor Panas

Lansing Lugnuts 4, Dayton Dragons 3

The Lansing Lugnuts edged out a win over the Dayton Dragons, scoring in the top of the eighth to win 4-3. Mattingly Romanin (Burlington, Ont.) was 2/4 with two doubles and an RBI while Josh Palacios was 2/5 with a run and Luis Silva was 2/4 with two RBI. Javier Hernandez was on base twice, going 1/3 with a walk and a run.

Justin Maese started for the Lugnuts and threw 72 pitches over four innings, allowing only two hits but walking four and striking out four. Andy Ravel tossed two scoreless frames, giving up just one hit and striking out three while Andrew Deramo got into trouble in the seventh, allowing three runs on two hits over 2/3 of an inning. Mike Ellenbest finished the seventh, stranding two runners and pitched a scoreless eighth, walking one and striking one out. Jared Carkuff struck out the side in the ninth to earn his fifth save.

Player of the Game: Mattingly Romanin

Vancouver Canadians 0, Tri-City Dust Devils 3

The Vancouver Canadians were shut out as they opened their series against the Tri-City Dust Devils on Tuesday. Norberto Obeso was the only Canadian with two hits, going 2/4 with a double. Logan Warmoth was 1/3 with a walk.

Donnie Sellers started, giving up just four hits and a walk with one strikeout in three innings. Wilfri Aleton took over and threw five strong innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits without walking anyone and striking out five. Orlando Pascual allowed a run without giving up a hit and walking one in the ninth.

Player of the Game: Wilfri Aleton and Norberto Obeso

Bluefield Blue Jays 7, Elizabethton Twins 5

The Bluefield Blue Jays opened their doubleheader with a 7-5 win over the Elizabethton Twins. Kevin Smith was 2/3 with two runs and an RBI while Samad Taylor also had two hits, going 2/3 with a walk, two RBI and a stolen base. Brandon Grudzielanek was 1/4 with two RBI and Ryan Noda scored twice, going 0/2 with two walks and an RBI. Chavez Young was on base twice, going 1/3 with a walk and a triple, scoring twice and driving in one.

Maximo Castillo struck out seven over five innings but also gave up three runs on six hits. Marcus Reyes allowed two more runs in the sixth and Graham Spraker struck out all three batters he faced in the seventh to earn the save.

Player of the Game: Kevin Smith and Samad Taylor

Bluefield Blue Jays 3, Elizabethton Twins 12

The Bluefield Blue Jays were unable to sweep their doubleheader, losing the second half to the Elizabethton Twins 12-3. Elio Silva allowed five runs on 10 hits over 2 1/3 innings before Jose Nova took over and gave up four more runs on four hits and a walk over 1 2/3. Joe DiBenedetto gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits over two innings and Tyler Olander walked two but didn't give up any runs in the seventh.

The Blue Jays had just five hits including doubles from Chavez Young, Kevin Smith and Yorman Rodriguez who also walked and drove in a run. Ryan Noda was 1/2 with a walk and an RBI and Ryan Gold hit a solo home run, going 1/3.

Player of the Game: Ryan Gold

GCL Blue Jays 3, GCL Braves 2

The GCL Blue Jays got two runs in the 10th and allowed just one run in the bottom half to beat the GCL Braves 3-2. Aldo Ovando was 1/4 but hit a home run and scored twice. Patrick Morris, playing first base was 2/3 with a walk and a run, driving in one and Luis De Los Santos was 2/5 with a double and an RBI.

Travis Bergen started and threw two scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. Emmanuel Reyes retired all six batters he faced over two innings and Claudio Galva allowed an unearned run on six hits with one strikeout over 4 1/3 innings. Justin Watts got the win and allowed an unearned run on one hit in 1 2/3 innings.

Player of the Game: Patrick Morris and Luis De Los Santos
