Blue Jays from Away

Three wins in four games was the result of the Toronto Blue Jays' minor league clubs in action on Wednesday night.

Buffalo Bisons 6, Syracuse Mets (NYM) 4

The triple-A Buffalo Bisons came back from a 16-2 shellacking on Tuesday to beat the Syracuse Mets 6-4 on Wednesday.

Andrew Sopko didn't have his best start, allowing five walks and two home runs (the only two hits he allowed) with six strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings but Zach Jackson stranded an inherited runner, walking one and striking out two in 1 1/3 innings to get the win and Jordan Romano (Markham, Ont.) had his second save, striking out two in the ninth.

Anthony Alford had a big game for the Bisons, going 2/4 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs. Socrates Brito hit a two run home run and drove in three, going 1/4. Billy McKinney was 1/4 and Patrick Kivelhan was 1/3 while Andy Burns was 2/3 with a double and two runs.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Harrisburg Senators (WAS) 5

The double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats scored four runs for the second game in a row but allowed five as the Harrisburg Senators won 5-4.

Riley Adams moved his batting average to .286 (with an .863 OPS) with a 2/4 game that included a double and two RBI. Santiago Espinal was 2/4 with a run and Vinny Capra hit a double, going 1/4. Kevin Smith was 1/4 with his fifth home run of the year and Forrest Wall also hit a solo shot, his third of the year, going 1/4 with a walk. Alberto Mineo and Chad Spanberger each had singles.

Zach Logue had a solid start, going five innings and giving up two runs on six hits and two walks, striking out one. Jake Fishman took the loss, allowing two more runs in the sixth on two hits and a walk. Bryan Baker gave up another run in the seventh, allowing a solo home run while Jackson McClelland pitched a perfect eighth, striking out one.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Tampa Tarpons (NYY) 1

The class-A Advanced Dunedin Blue Jays got another strong pitching performance from Nick Allgeyer in a 4-1 win over the Tampa Tarpons.

Allgeyer went six innings, allowing just one run on four hits and a walk, striking out seven before Kyle Weatherly came on to throw two scoreless innings, striking out three. Matt Shannon allowed two hits in the ninth but struck out two to get the save.

Cal Stevenson continued to hit, going 2/4 with a double and two RBI while Chavez Young also had two hits, going 2/3 with a run and a stolen base. Alejandro Kirk was 1/3 with a run and Ryan Noda was 1/2 with a run and was hit by pitches twice. Kacy Clemans was 1/4 with an RBI and a run and Demi Orimoloye (Orleans, Ont.) was 1/4.

Lansing Lugnuts 3, Dayton Dragons (CIN) 1

The low-A Lansing Lugnuts got an outstanding pitching performance from their starter on the way to a 3-1 win over the Dayton Dragons.

Josh Winckowski went seven innings to get the win, giving up just four hits and a walk without allowing a run while striking out eight, needing only 83 pitches (60 for strikes). Sean Rackoski allowed a run in the eighth, giving up a hit and striking out one and Cre Finfrock got the save, walking one in the ninth.

Red-hot Jake Brodt hit his seventh home run of the year, driving in two and Griffin Conine made his season debut, going 1/4 with an RBI and a run. Reggie Pruitt was 1/4 with a double and a run and Ryan Gold had the club's only other hit, a double.
