Blue Jays from Away

With the Vancouver Canadians off for the All-Star Break, there were seven games on Tuesday night with the Blue Jays' affiliates winning three of them.

Buffalo Bisons 5, Toledo Mud Hens (DET) 7

After an off day, the Buffalo Bisons opened their series with the Toledo Mud Hens, losing 7-5.

Billy McKinney continued his bid to get back to the majors with a 3/3 game, taking two walks and driving in two runs while scoring one, stealing a base. Jonathan Davis was 2/3 with two walks, a stolen base and two runs while Rowdy Tellez was 2/5 with two doubles and a run. Patrick Kivlehan was 2/5 with a triple and an RBI. Socrates Brito was on twice, going 1/4 with a double and an RBI, adding a walk while Michael De La Cruz was 1/3 with a walk and a run. Richard Urena was 1/5 with an RBI.

Anthony Kay made his second start for the Bisons, striking out six over five innings and giving up two runs on four hits (including a home run) with three walks. Zach Jackson allowed a run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings and Matt Dermody allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning, stranding two runners and leaving two on for Ty Tice. Tice allowed both runners to score, walking three and giving up an unearned run in 2/3 of an inning.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7, Akron RubberDucks (CLE) 0

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats put a solid beating on the Akron RubberDucks, getting a big game from Kevin Smith and Josh Palacios in a 7-0 win.

Smith was 3/4 with a double, a home run, four RBI and a run while Palacios was 3/4 with an RBI and a run with two stolen bases. Brock Lundquist hit a double, going 2/4 with a run while Forrest Wall was 1/5 with an RBI. Nash Knight was 1/5 with two runs and Riley Adams was 1/3 with a walk and two runs. Chad Spanberger also had a hit, going 1/4. Logan Warmoth was hit by a pitch and stole a base.

Justin Dillon threw six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and a walk with two strikeouts for his fourth win with New Hampshire. Vinny Nittoli struck out two in two innings and Dany Jimenez finished it, allowing a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in the final inning.

Roster Notes: Jake Brodt was sent back to Lansing and Cullen Large was promoted from Dunedin to New Hampshire.

Dunedin Blue Jays 1, Clearwater Threshers (PHI) 5

The Dunedin Blue Jays couldn't score much and handed the Clearwater Threshers a 5-1 win.

Demi Orimoloye (Orleans, Ont.) was 3/4 with a double and Chavez Young was 1/2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch, stealing two bases but neither figured into the scoring. Norberto Obeso was 1/3 with a solo home run and Alejandro Kirk and Samad Taylor each had a hit with Taylor's going for a double.

Graham Spraker took the loss, allowing just two runs on four hits (including a home run) with three walks and three strikeouts in five innings. Sean Rackoski allowed a home run on just one hit with three strikeouts in two innings and Emerson Jimenez gave up two more runs on a hit (which was a home run) and he hit two batters, striking out one in the eighth.

Roster Notes: Cullen Large was promoted to New Hampshire and Reggie Pruitt was promoted from Lansing to Dunedin.

Lansing Lugnuts 1, Bowling Green Hot Rods (TB) 6

On getaway day, the Lansing Lugnuts lost 6-1 to the Bowling Green Hots Rods in afternoon action.

The Lugs had six hits including two from Jake Brodt who was 2/4 with an RBI while Tanner Kirwer (Sherwood Park, Alta.), Otto Lopez (Montreal, Que.), Hagen Danner and Griffin Conine had one hit each with Danner stealing a base and Conine and Kirwer each picking up an outfield assist.

Troy Miller allowed four runs on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss. Andy McGuire allowed a hit in 1 1/3 innings and Josh Hiatt allowed two more runs in the eighth, giving up three hits and striking out one.

Bluefield Blue Jays 6, Greeneville Reds (CIN) 4

The Bluefield Blue Jays turned the tide in their second game with the Greeneville Reds, winning 6-4 in 10 innings.

Miguel Hiraldo went deep with his fifth home run of the season, going 1/3 with three RBI while Leonardo Jimenez was 3/5 with a triple, two RBI and a run. Justin Ammons had two hits, going 2/5 with an RBI and two runs while Steward Berroa was 1/3 with a walk, a run and two stolen bases. Spencer Horwitz (1/5) and Ryan Sloniger (1/4) had base hits.

Naswell Paulino threw four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in his start while Lazaro Estrade gave up three runs on five hits (including a home run) with two walks and two strikeouts in three innings. Kyle Huckaby tossed two innings, blowing the save, allowing a solo home run among three hits with two walks and three strikeouts before Yunior Hinjosa got the save with a scoreless 10th, striking out one.

GCL Blue Jays 7, GCL Yankees West 3

The GCL Blue Jays rebounded from being no hit on Monday to beat the GCL Yankees West 7-3 on Tuesday.

Jose Espada saw some action, tossing two innings without allowing a hoit or a walk, striking out two before Rafael Monsion threw three hitless innings, walking three and striking out six. Brayan Mejia allowed a hit in the sixth and Jiorgeny Casimiri tossed two scoreless innings, walking one. Oscar Brito allowed three runs (two earned) on a hit and three walks in the ninth, getting just one out while Miguel Olivo finished the inning, allowing two hits and striking out one in 2/3 of an inning.

Rainer Nunez was 1/3 with a home run, adding a walk while Jhon Solarte was 2/4 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Hugo Cardona was 2/3 with two runs while Francisco Ruiz was 1/3 with a walk, a double and two runs. Orelvis Martinez was 1/3 with two walks and two RBI, hitting a triple and Alberto Rodriguez was 1/5 with an RBI and a run as Erickvi Celedonio came in for Dasan Brown and was 1/1 with an RBI.

DSL Blue Jays 6, DSL Orioles1 16

The DSL Blue Jays' pitching staff was hammered for 16 runs on 20 hits as the DSL Orioles1 beat the Blue Jays 16-6.

Willfrann Astudillo was 3/4 with a double, an RBI and a run while Glenn Santiago was 1/3 with two walks, an RBI and a run, adding a stolen base. Adrian Montero was 0/0 with a walk and a stolen base, making way for Juan Pizarro who was 1/4 with an RBI, two runs and a stolen base. Gabriel Martinez was 0/2 with a walk, an RBI and a sac fly and Francisco Ruiz was 1/2 with a run.

Fernando Chacon allowed seven runs (four earned) on 12 hits with a walk and five strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Jorman Gonzalez relieved Chacon in the fourth and gave up another run on a hit and two walks with one strikeout in 1/3 of an inning. Francis Mercedes came in with two runners on and stranded both, tossing three scoreless innings with two hits and two walks, striking out two. Andres Garcia allowed five runs (four earned) on three hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings while Alcindo Pontes couldn't get an out, walking three, all of whom scored. Joneivy Polonia allowed all three of his inherited runners to score, giving up two hits and a walk in the final 2/3 of an inning.
