Blue Jays from Away

With just five games on the docket for the Toronto Blue Jays' minor leaguers (including two games played by the Buffalo Bisons), the clubs won two of the five.

Buffalo Bisons 4, Rochester Red Wings 5

Opening a doubleheader with the Rochester Red Wings, the triple-A Buffalo Bisons lost 5-4. Dalton Pompey (Mississauga, Ont.) was 2/3 with a double, a walk, two RBI and two runs while Dwight Smith Jr. was 2/3 with a double and Darnell Sweeney was 2/3 with a run. Gunnar Heidt was 1/3 with a double and a run and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Montreal, Que.) was 1/3 with an RBI. Rowdy Tellez played his first game in a while, going 0/3 with an RBI.

Jacob Waguespack took the loss, going all six innings and giving up five runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts.

Buffalo Bisons 4, Rochester Red Wings 6

The Rochester Red Wings went on to sweep the Buffalo Bisons with a 6-4 win in the second game of their doubleheader. Sean Reid-Foley made his first start in triple-A in three weeks, but gave up five runs in three innings on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Conor Fisk allowed a run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in two innings and Taylor Guerrieri pitched a clean ninth.

Gunnar Heidt hit two doubles, driving in a run and scoring a run and Alberto Mineo was 2/3 with his first triple-A home run and two RBI. Roemon Fields was 2/4 with a run while Rowdy Tellez was 1/3 with an RBI and a run and Anthony Alford was 1/3.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 8, Portland Sea Dogs 4

The ball was flying out in Portland as the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats doubled up the Portland Sea Dogs 8-4 as they teams combined for six home runs with three on each side. Jon Berti completed the cycle, hitting a single, a double, a triple and a home run, driving in two runs and scoring four for the Fisher Cats while Bo Bichette hit two doubles and a home run, driving in three with two runs and a stolen base. Harold Ramirez was 2/5 with a solo home run and Cavan Biggio was base three times, going 2/4 with a walk and an RBI and Patrick Cantwell hit a triple, going 1/4 with a run.

Jon Harris was the beneficiary of this run support, earning his 11th win, allowing three runs on four hits (including two home runs) and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings before Francisco Rios took over for two scoreless innings, striking out one. Dusty Isaacs struck out four in two innings, giving up a solo home run among two hits.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Palm Beach Cardinals 10

In a game played through rain, Josh Donaldson saw his first game action in months as the Dunedin Blue Jays lost 10-2 to the Palm Beach Cardinals. Logan Warmoth hit a double and a triple, scoring a run and Rodrigo Orozco was 2/4 with an RBI. Ivan Castillo was 1/4 with a double and a run and Josh Donaldson was 1/2 with a walk and an RBI. Kevin Smith was 1/4 with a walk.

Maverik Buffo allowed seven runs on seven hits (including a home run) with two walks and a strikeout in 4 2/3 innings. Nick Hartman allowed three hits in 1 1/3 innings and Angel Perdomo was charged with three runs (two earned) on four walks with two strikeouts in an inning, leaving the bases loaded for Jonathan Cheshire who allowed two to score despite striking out four batters, walking one and giving up a hit in two innings.

Bluefield Blue Jays 5, Burlington Royals 4

Cal Stevenson had another tremendous game, helping the rookie-class Bluefield Blue Jays to a 5-4 win over the Burlington Royals. Stevenson was 3/4 with a double and two walks, stealing four bases while Rafael Lantigua was 0/0 with five(!) walks and a run. Alejandro Kirk was 1/3 with two walks and a run and Davis Schneider was 1/5 with an RBI double and a run. D.J. Daniels was 1/5 with an RBI and a run as well as a stolen base while Gabriel Moreno was 1/5 with a double and an RBI. Patrick Morris was 1/4 with a walk and a run.

Adams Cuevas picked up his first win, striking out six and not walking anyone in five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. Sean Rackoski allowed three runs on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts in one inning and Jackson Rees allowed an unearned run on two hits with a strikeout in the seventh. Neither Brennan Price (1 IP, 2 K) nor Brad Wilson (S, 1 IP, 1 BB, 2 K) allowed a hit in his inning of work.
