Blue Jays from Away

With seven games on the slate, The Blue Jays' minor league teams went 2-5 getting wins from Buffalo and Bluefield.

Buffalo Bisons 11, Indianapolis Indians (PIT) 8

The triple-A Buffalo Bisons got a huge game from Bo Bichette as he drove in five runs in the eight-run fifth inning on the way to an 11-8 win over the Indianapolis Indians.

Bichette was 3/5 with a single, double and home run, driving in five runs and scoring twice. The ball was flying as Jordan Patterson went deep for his ninth home run, going 2/5 with a double an RBI and two runs while Socrates Brito (1/5) hit his sixth home run, driving in two. Richard Urena was 2/4 with a triple, two RBI and a run while Andy Burns was on base twice, going 1/3 with a walk, two runs and a stolen base. Patrick Kivlehan was 1/1 with two walks and a run, also getting hit by a pitch and Jonathan Davis was 1/4 with an RBI and a run. Michael De La Cruz was 1/3 with a walk and a run.

Ryan Feierabend got the win, allowing three runs on four hits (including a home run) with one walk and seven strikeouts through six innings. Matt Dermody worked a scoreless seventh, allowing a hit and striking out two while Dusty Isaacs gave up three runs on four hits in the eighth, striking out two and Kirby Snead allowed two runs on two solo home run in the ninth with three strikeouts.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (NYM) 4

The double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats couldn't beat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, falling 4-2 on Thursday.

Jon Harris tossed two innings, giving up three runs on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts before William Ouellette gave up a run on six hits over four innings with two strikeouts. Vinny Nittoli struck out two over two innings and Danny Young threw an uneventful ninth inning.

The hitters had just four hits among them with Santiago Espinal going 1/3 with a double, a walk and two RBI and Brock Lundquist going 1/4 with a double and a run. Alberto Mineo was 1/4 and Logan Warmoth was 1/3 with a walk.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Palm Beach Cardinals (STL) 5

The class-A Advanced Dunedin Blue Jays couldn't quite keep the Palm Beach Cardinals in check, losing 5-4.

Joey Murray had a solid game on the mound, throwing five innings and allowing just two solo home runs to score, giving up six hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Mike Ellenbest took the loss, going two innings and allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout while Jackson Rees allowed an unearned run on a hit with a strikeout in the final two innings.

The batters had eight hits among them with Alejandro Kirk going 2/4 with a double and Demo Orimoloye (Orleans, Ont.) was 2/4 with a home run and a double, driving in a run and scoring once. Jesus Navarro also had two hits, going 2/3 with an RBI. Cal Stevenson walked and had a single, driving in a run and Samad Taylor was 1/3 with a walk and two runs, stealing a base.

Lansing Lugnuts 2, Dayton Dragons (CIN) 7

The low-A Lansing Lugnuts opened their second half, falling 7-2 to the Dayton Dragons.

Sean Wymer started for the Lugnuts, giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits with three strikeouts over five innings. Marcus Reyes ran into trouble, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks with one strikeout in 1/3 of an inning before MIke Pascoe came on to strand two runners and get through 1 2/3 innings without giving up a run, walking three and striking out two. Will McAffer (North Vancouver, B.C.) tossed a scoreless eighth, striking out two.

Gabriel Moreno was 2/4 with a triple and an RBI while Hagen Danner was 1/2 with two walks. Reggie Pruitt hit a double, going 1/5 with a run while Griffin Conine was 1/4 with a walk and a run. Ryan Gold was 1/3 and Jesus Severino was 0/3 but drove in a run and walked.

Vancouver Canadians 0, Eugene Emeralds (CHC) 3

The class-A Short Season Vancouver Canadians couldn't manage to score as they fell to the Eugene Emeralds 3-0 in the final game of their season-opening homestand.

Adam Kloffenstein had a strong outing, going 3 2/3 innings, allowing just a hit and a walk with four strikeouts while Nicolas Medina allowed two runs on three hits and two walks with a strikeout in one inning. Adams Cuevas struck out three, facing the minimum over 2 1/3 innings and Josh Almonte struck out four in 1 2/3 innings but gave up a run on three hits. Luke Gillingham finished, allowing a hit in 1/3 of an inning.

All five hits of the Canadians came from just two players with Luis De Los Santos going 3/4 with two doubles and Trevor Schwecke going 2/3 with a double and a walk.

Bluefield Blue Jays 6, Elizabethton Twins (MIN) 13

A day after scoring six runs and winnings, the Bluefield Blue Jays scored six runs and lost 13-6 to the Elizabethton Twins.

Felipe Castaneda gave up six runs on six hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings, throwing three wild pitches and hitting two batters and Juan Acosta allowed four runs (three earned) over 1 1/3 innings, allowing a hit and three walks and striking out two, hitting a batter and throwing a wild pitch, adding a balk. Ronald Magdaniel gave up two unearned runs on a hit and two walks in 2/3 of an inning, striking out one. Gaudy Ramirez went 2 1/3 innings, allowing just a hit and striking out five before Kyle Huckaby made his pro debut, allowing a run on three hits with a strikeout in the eighth.

Leonardo Jimenez went 3/5 with two runs to lead the offence while Angel Camacho was 2/5 with a double and three RBI and Scotty Bradley was 2/3 with two walks and an RBI. Eric Rivera was 1/5 and Miguel Hiraldo was 1/5 with a run. Spencer Horwitz was 1/4 with a double, a walk and a run, adding an RBI and Patrick Morris was 1/4 with an RBI and two runs.

DSL Blue Jays 5, DSL D-backs1 6

With three runs in the top of the ninth, without getting a hit in the inning, the DSL D-backs1 beat the DSL Blue Jays 6-5.

Juanfer Castro started and gave up two runs in four innings, allowing three hits and two walks with three strikeouts before giving up the ball to Fernando Chacon who allowed a run on two hits with three strikeouts in two innings. Andres Garcia tossed two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk and Gerardo Santana took the loss, walking three runners in the ninth, throwing three wild pitches and getting just two outs. He was charged with three runs but both runners he left on scored as Raudy Sanchez walked one and got an out, throwing two wild pitches of his own.

Gabriel Martinez was 2/4 with a double, a walk, a run and an outfield assist. Leonel Callez had two singles, scored once and was caught stealing and Junior Ramos was 2/4 with two doubles an RBI and two runs, adding a stolen base. Daniel Oliva was 0/1 but walked four times and scored, stealing two bases and Amell Brazoban was 1/5 with a stolen base.
