Dunedin Blue Jays 5, Daytona Tortugas 2

The Dunedin Blue Jays were the beneficiaries of strong pitching and timely hitting to beat the Daytona Tortugas 5-2 on Saturday. While Troy Tulowitzki was originally supposed to play for the Blue Jays, he was scratched from the lineup likely due to wet conditions. The Blue Jays did get Chris Smith starting and Smith threw his inning, striking out two batters. Conor Fisk took over, tossing another 6 1/3 innings and allowing just two runs on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts before Daniel Young took over for the rest of the eighth inning, striking out one. Tom Robson (Richmond, B.C.) earned his first save of the season, striking out two in the ninth.

Andrew Guillotte had an outstanding all around game, going 2/4 with a double, a walk, two runs, a stolen base and yet another outfield assist. Danny Jansen had another multi-hit game, going 2/4 with a double and two RBI while Max Pentecost drove in a pair of runs, going 0/2 with a walk. Cavan Biggio had an interesting line, going 0/0 with three walks, a run and an RBI.

Roster Notes: Jared Carkuff was assigned to extended spring training and Chris Smith was assigned to the Dunedin Blue Jays for a rehab assignment.

Lansing Lugnuts 4, Kane County Cougars 6

Denis Diaz had another rough start for the Lansing Lugnuts and the Lugnuts just couldn't play catch up as they lost to the Kane County Cougars 6-4. Diaz tossed three innings, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Diaz walked the first batter he faced in the fourth before being relieved by Griffin Glaude who stranded the runner but he allowed a double, a triple, a sac fly and a home run to start the fifth inning before Kirby Snead came in to try his hand. Snead threw 1 1/3 innings, striking out three and walking one while Geno Encina also threw a scoreless 1 1/3 inning. Daniel Lietz relieved Encina and threw a scoreless eighth inning, giving up two hits.

Bo Bichette had himself a day, going 3/5 with a double, an RBI and a run, taking over the Midwest League lead in batting average at .367 while Bradley Jones was 2/5 with a run, stealing home on a double steal along with Jake Thomas who stole second and went 1/2 with an RBI and two more walks.
