Blue Jays from Away

The Toronto Blue Jays' affiliates won two of their three games with some late-inning heroics in both Lansing and Hartford (the Fisher Cats were on the road).

Buffalo Bisons, Pawtucket Red Sox

Game postponed due to rain.

Roster Notes: The Blue Jays called up Dwight Smith Jr. and sent Anthony Alford back to Buffalo.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7, Hartford Yard Goats 6

The double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats got a two-run home run from Jonathan Davis in the top of the 11th and the 'Cats were ultimately able to hold on for a 7-6 win over the Hartford Yard Goats.

Davis was 2-for-6 with a double, two RBI and two runs while Bo Bichette hit his first double-A home run, going 2-for-6 with two RBI. Cavan Biggio also hit a home run, his league leading 11th, going 2-for-4 with a walk. Connor Panas (Toronto, Ont.) was 2-for-5 with a double and a run, throwing a runner out from the outfield trying to take second base and Juan Kelly was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Andrew Guillotte was 1-for-3 with two walks, a run and a stolen base. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Montreal, Que.) was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI (from a sacrifice fly), bringing his average down to .400.

Nick Tepesch started for New Hampshire, tossing five innings and giving up five runs on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Dalton Rodriguez walked two in his double-A debut over one inning and Kirby Snead tossed two frames, giving up just a walk with two strikeouts. Justin Shafer got the win, pitching the final three innings and not giving up a hit until the bottom of the 11th when he gave up a leadoff double, bringing home the placed runner on second base. Shafer allowed just the one hit and struck out three.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Tampa Tarpons 4

In the first game of their doubleheader, the Dunedin Blue Jays lost 4-2 to the Tampa Tarpons. Logan Warmoth continues to slowly get his bat going, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run while Bradley Jones was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI to go with a stolen base.

Tayler Saucedo allowed all four runs to the Tarpons, giving up eight hits and a walk with two strikeouts in three innings. Recently activated Joel Espinal tossed three hitless frames, retiring all nine batters he faced and striking out three.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Tampa Tarpons 0

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Dunedin Blue Jays came out on top despite the offence staying quiet and combining for four hits in a 2-0 win. Bradley Jones had another hit, going 1-for-3 with a double while Ivan Castillo (1-for-3), D.J. Davis (1-for-3, R) and Rodrigo Orozco (1-for-2, R, SB) each had a single.

Jonathan Cheshire started, going three scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Jake Fishman got the win, tossing two perfect innings, striking out three and Nick Hartman got the save, giving up just a hit and striking out four in two innings.

Lansing Lugnuts 10, Dayton Dragons 9

The low- Lansing Lugnuts got their 25th win, walking one off against the Dayton Dragons in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 10-9 win.

The Lugnuts got out to a big lead, scoring six runs in the bottom of the second and three in the in the bottom of the fifth but six runs in the eighth for Dayton tied the game and neither team could score in the ninth. With Brock Lundquist on second base to start the inning, Samad Taylor took a one-out walk and Yeltsin Gudino got the job done with two outs, bringing Lundquist home to finish the game.The Lugnuts had 15 hits including three from Chavez Young (3-for-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R, SB) who exited the game for Norberto Obeso in the seventh inning. Christian Williams was 3-for-6 with a double and an RBI and Samad Taylor was 3-for-5 with a double, a walk and two runs. Gudino was 2-for-5 with a walk, two RBI and two runs, adding a stolen base. Kevin Vicuna also had two hits, going 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run while Kevin Smith was 0-for-3 with two walks (one intentional) and a run.

Colton Laws was solid in the start, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits (including a home run) with five strikeouts in four innings. Maximo Castillo took the brunt of the damage, allowing six runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings with three strikeouts. Kyle Weatherly went 1 1/3 innings, allowing an unearned run on two hits and Matt Shannon got the win, walking one and striking out two in the 10th.
