Blue Jays from Away

With All-Star weekend upon us in the major leagues, the Dominican Summer League finally got under way with the Blue Jays winning their first game.

DSL Blue Jays 6, DSL Padres 1

The Dominican Summer League Blue Jays got off to a rocking start as they defeated the DSL Padres 6-1 with a big contribution from their top international prospect signed in January, Manuel Beltre.

Beltre went 2-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run, an RBI and two runs. Cristian Feliz went 1-for-3 with a home run of his own, driving in four runs while Yhoangel Aponte was 1-for-1 with three walks and two runs. Yeuni Munoz was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Johan Simon took the ball to start, tossing three innings, giving up a run off of two hits (one HR) with a walk and five strikeouts before handing the ball over to Jean Lopez who threw four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with two strikeouts. Sergio Caruci walked one and gave up a hit in two innings with one strikeout to finish the game.
