Blue Jays from Away

On the first day of the MLB draft, there were only three games on the slate for the Blue Jays' minor leaguers. All three won with a lot of roster shuffling to prepare for the start of the short- season teams this week.

Dunedin Blue Jays 6, Palm Beach Cardinals 2

The Dunedin Blue Jays must be more than pleased to have gone to Palm Beach to take on the Cardinals after having a rough weekend against Bradenton. They opened their series Monday with a 6-2 win over the Cardinals. The bottom of the order got things done with five of the lower six players in the order getting all 11 hits for the club. J.C. Cardenas was 3/3 with his first home run of the year, driving in three. Connor Panas (Toronto, Ont.) was 2/5 with a run, Bradley Jones was 2/5, Carl Wise was 2/4 with an RBI and two runs and Josh Almonte was 2/3 with a walk and an RBI. Lane Thomas came out of the game early.

Josh DeGraaf got the start for the Blue Jays, going five strong innings and allowing one run on four hits and a walk with one strikeout. Ryan Cook tossed two scoreless innings of relief, allowing a hit and striking out two while Tom Robson (Richmond, B.C.) gave up a run on just one walk with a strikeout in two innings.

Roster Notes: The Blue Jays promoted Kirby Snead from Lansing to Dunedin while Jose Nova was also assigned to Dunedin from extended spring training. Mitch Nay was transferred off the Blue Jays' roster to the Lansing Lugnuts and Jesus Navarro was promoted to Dunedin with Max Pentecost and Conor Fisk going on the DL and Kender Villegas moving up to New Hampshire.

Lansing Lugnuts 9, Fort Wayne TinCaps 7

Once again, the Lansing Lugnuts' powerful offense pulled the club's fat out of the fire, rallying late in a see-saw battle to emerge with the 9-7 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps. Mitch Nay was activated after a long battle with a staph infection and multiple surgeries on his leg to hit a home run in his first game, going 1/5. Nash Knight was 3/5 with a double and two RBI while Edward Olivares continues to be hot, going 3/5 with a triple, an RBI and two runs. Ridge Smith drove in a pair, going 1/3 with a walk, a home run, a run and a stolen base and Rodrigo Orozco is now hitting .278 after a 2/4 game that included two doubles, a walk, two runs and an RBI.

Andy Ravel got the start and had another rough game, going 4 2/3 innings and allowing six runs on eight hits (including two home runs) and three walks with two strikeouts. Griffin Glaude got the win, giving up just one run on a solo home run (and no other hits or walks) with three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings and Geno Encina got the save with two perfect innings, striking out two.
