Blue Jays from Away

As the Bluefield Blue Jays swing into action on Tuesday, the Blue Jays affiliates were 2-5.

Buffalo Bisons 2, Indianapolis Indians (PIT) 5

The triple-A Buffalo Bisons returned to action after an off day but gave up the eventual winning runs in the seventh in a 5-2 loss to the Indianapolis Indians.

Socrates Brito led the offence, hitting a home run and going 1/4 with the solo shot while Bo Bichette was 1/4 with an RBI. Andy Burns hit a double and scored and Anthony Alford had the team's only other hit.

Sean Reid-Foley had a solid start but threw a lot of pitches, going only 4 2/3 frames with two runs against on five hits and two walks, striking out eight and needing 105 pitches (just 56 strikes) to get through that many innings. Corey Copping allowed an unearned run on a walk with four strikeouts in two innings and Matt Dermody allowed two unearned run on one hit with two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. Ty Tice struck out two in the ninth.

Roster Notes: Anthony Alford was reinstated from the temporarily inactive list, William Ouellette was sent back to New Hampshire and Justin Shafer and Billy McKinney were recalled by Toronto.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (NYM) 6

In their last game of the first half, the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats lost 6-3 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

The Fisher Cats scored just three times despite 12 hits, getting three from Josh Palacios (3/4, 2B, 2 R), two from Santiago Espinal (2/4, 2B, CS), Riley Adams (2/4, 2B, RBI), Chad Spanberger (2/3, BB, CS) and Christian Williams (2/3, RBI, SF). Brock Lundquist hit a double, going 1/4 with an RBI and a run.

Hector Perez had a rough start, allowing five runs on eight hits (including a home run) with three walks and four strikeouts in five innings. Jake Fishman allowed just a hit with two strikeouts in two innings and Danny Young gave up a run on two hits with a strikeout in the eighth. Vinny Nittoli allowed a hit and struck out one in the ninth.

Roster Notes: Patrick Murphy was placed on the 7-day IL and William Ouellette was returned to New Hampshire from Buffalo.

Dunedin Blue Jays 6, Tampa Tarpons (NYY) 4

The class-A Advanced Dunedin Blue Jays came back to beat the Tampa Tarpons 6-4 in 10 innings on a Kacy Clemens walk-off home run after trailing their Monday-night game 4-1 when it was suspended in the top of the fifth inning.

Clemens hit his blast to lead off the bottom of the 10th to score Demi Orimoloye (Orleans, Ont.) who was on base to start the inning. For Clemens, it was his only hit as he went 1/4 with the home run, a walk and two RBI. Orimoloye was 2/5 with a run while Jesus Navarro was 3/4 with a run. Cal Stevenson was 1/4 with a double, a walk, an RBI, a run and a stolen base while Chavez Young was 1/4 with a double, a walk, two runs and a stolen base. Ryan Noda also hit a double, going 1/3 with a walk and an RBI and Kevin Vicuna and Alejandro Kirk each had a single with Vicuna adding a stolen base and Kirk adding a walk.

T.J. Zeuch started, allowing four runs in 4 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and a walk and striking out five. After the game restarted on Tuesday, Emerson Jimenez finished off the fifth, retiring the only batter he faced and Justin Dillon came on to finish the game, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out five to pick up the win.

Dunedin Blue Jays 5, Tampa Tarpons (NYY) 6

In the second game they played on Tuesday, the Dunedin Blue Jays led for much of the game, allowing six runs in the top of the seventh and only rallying for one more of their in a 6-5 loss to the Tampa Tarpons.

Cal Stevenson had three hits, going 3/4 with a triple, an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Samad Taylor was 1/2 with a triple, a sac fly, two RBI and a run while Kevin Vicuna (1/2, BB), Demi Orimoloye (1/3, R, SB) and Jesus Navarro (1/3, 2B, RBI, R) had the other hits. Ryan Noda was 0/2 but walked and scored, stealing a base and Chavez Young was 0/2 with a sac fly and an RBI.

Maximo Castillo was outstanding in his start, throwing five scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Connor Law struck out the side in order in the sixth but Kyle Weatherly got into trouble, letting all four of the batters he faced get on, allowing two hits and two walks, allowing a run but leaving the bases loaded for Brad Wilson who let all three score, giving Weatherly four earned runs on his record. Wilson eventually struck out the side in the ninth but allowed three more hits and was charged with two runs of his own in the seventh, taking the loss.

Roster Notes: Naswell Paulino was sent to Bluefield from the Lansing Roster.

Vancouver Canadians 5, Eugene Emeralds (CHC) 6

The class-A Short-Season Vancouver Canadians played a see-saw game with the Eugene Emeralds, taking a lead in the bottom of the eighth, losing the lead int he top of the ninth and going behind in the top of the the 10th, only to be able to score one of the two runs they needed in the bottom of the 10th to take a 6-5 loss.

Tanner Morris led the way with three hits, going 3/6 with a double, an RBI and a run but made two errors while Will Robertson was 2/4 with a run. Luis De Los Santos was 1/5 with a double and an RBI while Brett Wright was 1/4 with a double and Yorman Rodriguez, pinch hitting in the 10th, was 1/1 with an RBI. Mc Gregory Contreras was 1/4 with a walk and Trevor Schwecke was 1/5 with an RBI and a walk. Dom Abbadessa was 0/3 but walked twice and stole a base.

Juan Diaz started, going six strong innings, allowing just three runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Juan Nunez allowed three hits and a walk but no runs with one strikeout in two innings of relief and Gage Burland took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk in two innings, striking out three.

Bluefield Blue Jays 2, Elizabethton Twins (MIN) 3

The Bluefield Blue Jays (Rookie ball) lost their opener in a well-played game but their offence didn't do much, getting three hits and losing 3-2.

Eric Rivera, the Jays' 14th-round draft pick this year was 1/3 with a double and a walk, driving in a run and scoring once and Miguel Hiraldo, playing DH, was 1/4 and P.K. Morris was 1/4. Steward Berroa was 0/2 but walked twice, stole a base and scored.

Roither Hernandez started for Bluefield, tossing five innings and giving up a run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Meliton Reyes struck out two in two innings and Luis Alvarez threw a scoreless eighth, walking one. Yunior Hinojosa allowed two runs in the bottom of the ninth, getting through 2/3 of an inning before the Twins walked it off, allowing two hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Player of the Game: Roither Hernandez

DSL Blue Jays 5, DSL Orioles1 3

The DSL Blue Jays got away with walking nine batters against the DSL Orioles1 but they also struck out 15 along the way to a 5-3 win.

Soenni Martinez started, striking out six over the course of four innings, allowing a run on two hits with two walks. Winder Garcia got the win, striking out three in two innings, allowing a walk and a hit while Raudy Sanchez walked three and struck out one in 2/3 of an inning, allowing a run while Francis Mercedes allowed a run on a hit and three walks over two innings with four strikeouts. Gerardo Santana finished the game by striking out the only batter he faced to earn the save.

Adrian Montero was the offensive leader in this one, going 2/3 with a triple, two RBI a run and he was hit by a pitch and Juan Pizarro was 2/4 with a triple and a run. Willfrann Astudillo was 1/3 with a double, an RBI and a run while Gustavo Ruiz (1/4, 2B, R) and Gabriel Martinez (1/4, 2B, RBI) each hit a double. Amell Brazoban was 1/4 with a run and Leonel Callez was 1/3 with a walk.
