JNT Dominican Pro Academy Camp: Juniors tie Cardinals and Brewers in doubleheader

The Junior National Team tied the St. Louis Cardinals DSL squad 3-3 in the first game of a doubleheader on Monday.

The Juniors scored three runs on seven hits and played flawless defence behind their pitching staff.

Box Score

Sam Maclaughlin (Toronto, Ont.) started for the Juniors and allowed a run on four hits, while striking out five, in 2 2/3 innings. Makaio Cisneros (Whitby, Ont.) relieved Maclaughlin and permitting just one run on one hit, while striking out six, in three innings.

Benito Bonilla (Halifax, N.S.) got the Juniors on the board in the top of the third inning with an RBI single that scored Jorge Valdes (Milton, Ont.) who had singled earlier. Simon Baker (Cochrane, Alta.) also picked up a hit and an RBI.

Brendan Lawson (North York, Ont.) was also key part of the Juniors’ offence, finishing 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Sean Duncan (Langley, BC) worked the last three innings, allowing a run on three hits while recording four strikeouts.

Second Game

The Junior National Team battled to a 2-2 tie against the Milwaukee Brewers DSL squad in the second game of a doubleheader on Monday.

The Juniors scored a pair of runs on three hits.

Box Score

Ryan Press (Toronto, Ont.) started for the Juniors and allowed a run on one hit, while striking out two, in 2 2/3 innings.

Calvin Warrillow (Toronto, Ont.) plated the Juniors’ first run in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI double.

Jorge Valdes (Milton, Ont.) was a spark at the top of the lineup, finishing a perfect 1-for-1 with a pair of walks and scoring the tying run in the seventh.

Owen Fernandes (Maple Ridge, B.C.) pitched three innings in relief, allowing a run on four hits while striking out three. Tate Carey (Windsor, Ont.) struck out five in three scoreless frames to close out the game.
