JNT Extended Spring: Jean finishes strong in start against Cards' prospects

WEST PALM BEACH, FL--- The Junior National Team ran into some tough pitching, facing a group of prospects from the St. Louis Cardinals organization who allowed just two hits en route to an 8-0 win.
Joshua Walker (Victoria, BC) and Jaden Brown (Mississauga, Ont.) came up with singles as the Cardinals allowed just five base runners.
Starting pitcher Antoine Jean (Montréal, Que.) was a bright spot on the mound, providing some length for the Junior National Team tossing five innings including four scoreless innings after allowing a three-run homer in the first.
GAME BREAKDOWN
-In the top of the first, Jean allowed a lead-off single before a double to left field was followed by a home run to left to put the Cardinals up, 3-0. Jean then retired the next eight batters he faced before allowing a two out single in the third inning.
-The Cardinals added to their lead with runs in the sixth and seventh innings coming on RBI singles off of reliever Viktor Bergeron (Terrebonne, Que.).
-Eli Saul (North Vancouver, BC) tossed a scoreless eighth inning before giving up a three-run homer in the ninth.
UP NEXT
The juniors will continue their extended spring training schedule on Thursday with a match-up against a prospects squad from the Washington Nationals organization with the first pitch set for 12 p.m. E.T...LHP Ben Adams (Ottawa, Ont.), RHP Simon Lusignan (Varennes, Que.) and RHP Gavin Pringle (Duncan, BC) are all expected to see action on the mound.
