BUENA VISTA, Florida – The Junior National Team suffered a 7-1 loss to a group of prospects from the Atlanta Braves organization as the Fall Instructional League camp continued on Monday.
The teams played the bottom of the ninth inning that saw the Braves add three more runs to their total.
SCORING
-The Braves put runners on the corners in the bottom of the first thanks to a lead off walk and single off of JNT starter Keegan Pulford-Thorpe (Newmarket, Ont.) before an RBI ground out brought in the game’s first run.
-The Braves would add to the lead in the second taking advantage of a bases loaded to situation to score on a fielder’s choice before a successful double-steal with runners on the corners put them in front by three.
-The juniors got on the scoreboard in the third and it was Jaden Brown (Mississauga, Ont.) who lined a triple to right and scored when Raphaël Pelletier (Mascouche, Que.) bounced out to shortstop.
-Pulford-Thorpe came back out for the fourth inning and allowed a lead off triple that would later score on a passed ball.
-The Braves added a run in the seventh using a two-base error followed by a double to left off reliever Eli Saul (Vancouver, BC) to go up 5-1.
-Gavin Pringle (Duncan, BC) took over for Saul in the eighth with runners on first and second and two out before allowing a single to load the bases before a base-hit to right field plated two more Braves’ runs.
QUICK HITS
-Starter Keegan Pulford-Thorpe allowed just one earned run over his outing that spanned 4 2/3 innings. The lefthander managed four strikeouts while allowing two hits and four walks.
