JNT Fall Instructional League: Morris shines in loss to Pirates

BRADENTON, Florida – The Junior National Team received a stellar pitching performance from right-hander Carter Morris (Vernon, BC) but it wasn’t enough as the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Fall Instructional League club earned an 11-0 win on Wednesday.
Morris entered the game with nobody out in the seventh and proceeded to retire the next nine batters over three innings of work.
SCORING
-The Pirates opened the scoring in the home half o the first inning with a pair of runs off of Junior National Team starter Ben Adams (Ottawa, Ont.). With the bases loaded, a wild pitch brought in the first run of the ballgame before a sacrifice-fly made it 2-0.
-Adams hit the first batter he faced in the second before back-to-back, one-out doubles plated two more runs. The Pirates added another later in the frame on a bases loaded walk.
-With the score 7-0, Antoine Jean (Montréal, Que.) entered the game in the fourth and allowed a solo home run before retiring two batters to end the frame. In the fifth, Jean worked out of a jam getting a ground out followed by a pair of strikeouts to strand two runners that reached on walks.
-The Pirates scored three in the seventh on back-to-back bases loaded walks while the 11thrun scored on a sac-fly.
QUICK HITS
-Morris used his defence to record all nine of his outs including three fly-outs to get out trouble in the seventh after taking over for Jean.
-The Junior National Team collected four hits on the afternoon with singles coming from Dasan Brown (Oakville, Ont.), Jaden Brown (Mississauga, Ont.), TJ Schofield-Sam (Brampton, Ont.) and Noel McGarry Doyle (Maple, Ont.).
-Dasan Brown added a stolen base in the sixth.

The Junior National Team will be back in action tomorrow playing a prospects squad from the Atlanta Braves’ organization at Champion Stadium in Lake Buena Vista with the first pitch set to fly at 1 p.m. E.T.
