JNT Spring Training: Baker, Cisneros, Dick shine in loss to Astros

The Houston Astros Extended team defeated the Junior National Team 7-1 on Thursday afternoon.

The Juniors scored one run on eight hits in the contest.

Starter Nick Frers (North Vancouver, BC) got into trouble early thanks in part to a defensive miscue that was followed by a three-run home run. The right-hander would settle down and battle through his next two innings, finishing the day with a pair of strikeouts while giving up three hits and four walks.

Hudson White (St. John’s, Nfld.) worked 1 2/3 innings in relief, giving up an earned run on two hits, while striking out one. Makaio Cisneros (Whitby, Ont.) worked the last third of the game, allowing a run on four hits while striking out one.

The Junior National Team scored their only run of the game on back-to-back doubles by Matt Evans (Tillsonburg, Ont.) and Deiten Lachance (Sherbrooke, Que.) in the top of the seventh inning

The Juniors only scored one run despite eight of the nine players in their lineup reaching base safely. Simon Baker (Cochrane, Alta.) and Cardel Dick (Abbotsford, BC) both finished a perfect 2-for-2.
