The Junior National Team lost to the Houston Astros Extended squad 16-2 in Spring Training action on Friday.

The Juniors scored a pair of runs on three hits.

Junior National Team starter Owen Slater (Whitby, Ont.) kept his team in the game early. He worked 2 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on three hits while striking out four.

Myles Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) and Calvin Warrillow (Toronto, Ont.) did their part offensively, finishing 1-for-3 and 1-for-2 respectively. The big offensive moment of the game for the Juniors came in the top of the fifth inning when Benito Bonilla (Halifax, N.S.) smashed a two-run home run.

The Astros’ offence exploded in the middle innings, scoring five runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, three in the seventh, and two more in the eight to pull away from the Canadians.

Elliot Cadieux Lanoue (St-Pie, Que.) came in in relief for the last two innings and limited the Astros to one earned run on two hits while striking out five.
