Brampton Royals put up 15 runs in each COBA win

The Brampton Royals had a successful week in COBA Major League action as they won both games pushing their overall record above .500.

For their efforts they were named the COBA Major League Zinger Bats Team of the Week for Week VI of the season.

On Thursday, the Royals hosted the Erindale Cardinals at Dave Dash Memorial Field in the Rose City. Brampton opened the scoring in the home half of the first inning plating a single run. The teams traded runs in the second while Erindale plated three in the third and the Royals answered back with two in their half to tie the game 4-4 after three innings.

Brampton would pile it on in the next two innings as they plated seven runs total in these two frames to take a commanding 11-4 lead. The Cards were not phased, chipping away in the sixth, scoring eight runs and taking a 12-11 lead. Brampton would score once in the seventh and two in the eighth to take a 14-12 lead to the final frame. Erindale scored a pair to tie the game but the Royals were able to push one across in the home half for a 15-14 win.

Zero K Bats Player of the Week Aidan Murphy led the 16-hit attack for Brampton going 5-for-6 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Fellow rookie Sam Lebel was 3-for-6 with four runs and four RBIs while veteran 1B Vic Speciale was also 3-for-6 with a run and a pair of RBIs.

Yannick Rickli was 2-for-3 with three walks, three runs and an RBI while Patrick Pinlac was 1-for-4. Andrew Thomson and Logan James each had a hit while Steve Hough had an RBI to wrap up the offence. Aneil Birsa was 3-for-6 with two doubles and three RBIs while Chris Novia was 2-for-5 with a double and four RBIs to led the way fro Erindale.

On the hill, Steve Hough drew the start for the Royals. He went five innings allowing four runs -- one earned -- on four hits. He didn’t walk anyone while striking out three in the no decision. Dawson Fascia followed him to the mound going 1 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits. He walked one batter and had one strikeout as well. Cameron Hibbs threw 1 1/3 innings allowing two runs on four hits. He walked a batter and struck out three

Joe Ferreira followed and threw 2/3 of an inning, allowing seven runs on three hits. he walked four batters and struck out two. Yannick Rickli finished up with 2/3 of an inning walking one batter and collecting the win. Andrew Mullin started for the Cards going five innings, allowing 11 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits. He walked three and struck out two. Kevin Lucas followed him and took the loss throwing three innings, permitting four runs (two earned) on four hits. he walked four batters while striking out one.

On Friday, Brampton hit the QEW for a road match-up against the Oakville A’s at Oakville Park. The Royals’ bats came out hot in this one as they plated nine runs in the first two innings. The A’s got three of those back and trailed 9-3 after three innings of play. Brampton continued to press in the middle innings as they scored another run in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth inning for a 13-3 lead.

Oakville managed to get one back in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 13-4. Brampton pushed a run across in the sixth while the A’s got two in the home half of the frame to make the score 14-5. The teams ended up pitching zeroes in the seventh and eighth innings before trading runs in ninth inning for a final score of 15-7.

Speciale led the way in this game, going 3-for-5 with a walk and a pair of runs while CJ Fearon was 3-for-4 with a triple and four stolen bases. Murphy was 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs, while C Marco DiRoma was 2-for-4 and a pair of RBIs.

Joe Ferreira was 2-for-4 with a double, a pair of walks and two RBIs. Yannick Rickli was 1-for-5 with a pair of RBIs while Sam Lebel (1-for-4, RBI) and Patrick Pinlac each had a hit to wrap up the Brampton offence.

Vic Christensen was 3-for-5 with a double while Ryan Ricci was also 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI to lead Oakville.

COBA Major Sam Bat Pitcher of the Week Arman Lakhani was the beneficiary of all the offence as he picked up the win on the mound. He went six innings allowing four runs -- one earned -- on seven hits. He walked one batter while striking out one as well.

RJ Page worked an inning of relief allowing two runs -- none earned -- zero hits. He hit a batter, had a walk and struck out one. Sam Lebel pitched the last two innings, allowed an earned run on zero hits. Paul McKenna started for Oakville and took the loss allowing seven runs in a 1/3 of an inning.
