July 25th seems to bring out the best in Canadian major leaguers.

Today, Joey Votto (Etobicoke, Ont.), Tyler O’Neill (Maple Ridge, B.C.) and Abraham Toro (Longueuil, Que.) each belted home runs for their respective teams.

O’Neill socked a two-run home run for the St. Louis Cardinals in the top of the first inning off Cincinnati Reds right-hander Sonny Gray. Not to be outdone, Votto responded with a three-run homer of his own in the bottom of the frame off Cards’ righty Johan Oviedo. The Cardinals eventually won the game 10-6.

Toro hit a two-run home run for the Houston Astros in the fifth inning off Texas Rangers right-hander Dennis Santana in his club’s 3-1 win at Minute Maid Park.

But as impressive as it was to have three Canucks belt home runs on the same day, this pales in comparison to the day that Canadian hitters and pitchers had in the big leagues 15 years ago.

Here’s a summary of the Canadian MLB performances on July 25, 2006.
