A ninth-inning rally gave the Junior National Team a thrilling 6-4 win over the Kansas City Royals DIL squad on Monday.
Shane Brinham (North Vancouver, BC) was the starting pitcher for the Juniors. He allowed just one run, while striking out four, in three innings of work.
The Juniors got on the board in the fourth when an RBI double by Justin Rompré (Sainte-Anne-De-La-Perade, Que.) tied the game 1-1. The Royals answered back in the bottom half of the frame to take a 2-1 lead.
The Juniors tied it back up in the fifth, manufacturing a run after a Jordan Jacob (Maple, Ont.) leadoff single.
But the bulk of the Juniors’ offence came in the ninth inning. In that frame, Easton Kitura (Spruce Grove, Alta.) was hit by a pitch and then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 4-4. Finn Hoeschen (North Vancouver, BC) scored the go-ahead run moments later. Another Royals’ wild pitch allowed Jacob to score to make it 6-4, which was the final score.
Nolan Weinmeyer (Sidney, BC) retiring the final three batters to secure the win for the Juniors.
